unique environmental training opportunities at dartington

The Dartington Hall Trust (DHT) is looking for two committed trainees to join its team. Commencing in January 2007, these nine-month training programmes working across the Woodlands and Conservation Department and the Grounds and Gardens Department, will offer a unique opportunity for individuals looking to embark upon a career in environmental conservation.

DHT is part of a partnership of organisations that have secured funding under the Kingfisher Project, which guarantees trainees an allowance of £110 per week for the duration of the course. The DHT trainees will receive on-going training and assessment throughout their internships, and after nine months they can expect to leave the estate with an NVQ Level 2 in Environmental Conservation. This qualification is the ideal first step for anyone seeking employment in the conservation sector.

During their internships, time will be spent working alongside DHT’s highly experienced, professional staff learning and developing a broad range of valuable skills whilst gaining an intimate insight into this unique organisation’s environmental, conservation and gardens work. In parallel with their normal working day, the trainees will also be given ample opportunity to collect evidence towards a portfolio that will illustrate their work for potential future employers.

Speaking of this exciting new opportunity, Tom Stevens, DHT Conservation Officer, comments:
“We are very excited to be part of this project, and really looking forward to helping two people on their way to future employment in the environmental field.”

These placements will last for 36 weeks, beginning on Monday 22nd January 2007 with a deadline of 21st November 2006 for applications.
