The treecreeper (Certhia familiaris) is a very small and active bird, that lives in woodland trees. It is breeds in Dartington’s deciduous and coniferous woodlands and also uses well-laid hedges. The nuthatch (Sitta euopaea) frequents Dartington’s mature deciduous woodlands feeding on insects, hazelnuts, acorns and other nuts and seeds. Much of the work in the woodland area and along field margins will be of great value to these species. Other species include three species of woodpecker, the green, the great spotted and the lesser spotted.
