The great crested newt (Triturus cristatus) is one of the most endangered of all our amphibians.

It lives in freshwater ponds and feeds on tadpoles, worms and insect larvae.

Threatened wetland areas are vital to all amphibians including the common newt (Triturus vulgaris), the common frog (Rana temporaria) and the common toad (Bufo bufo).

Populations of all of these species have suffered so badly in recent times that none is now 'common'.

The eco watch team will working to conserve their existing habitat and to create new ones.
